BeFrugal vs TopCashback: which pays more?
By Patrick · 2 min read · updated August 18, 2026
Neither wins outright: BeFrugal and TopCashback trade the lead store by store. Here's how to check which pays more right now, plus how their payouts differ.
Neither BeFrugal nor TopCashback is simply "the better" portal: on any given store, one of them pays more, and it isn't always the same one. If you've moved past Rakuten chasing higher rates, you've probably already landed on these two, since both sit near the top of the market. The differences that actually decide it are in the details, so that's where we'll spend this post. (New to shopping portals? Start with the shopping portal glossary.)
Rates: close, and store-dependent
Take Lowe's: BeFrugal is showing 7% right now against TopCashback's 15%. Switch to Macy's and it flips: BeFrugal's 10% against TopCashback's 7%. Same two portals, opposite leader, one store apart, and some of these are "up to" ceilings rather than a flat rate, so the badge matters as much as the headline number.

Rates don't sit still, either. Here's Macy's on both portals over the last several weeks (why rates move this much):

Whichever's higher on the store in front of you is your winner, for that purchase. Neither portal is categorically ahead of the other, and the wider portal ranking agrees: both sit in the top tier, just not on the same day.
Payouts: both flexible, slightly different floors
Both beat Rakuten's quarterly wait, and they're close to each other too:
- TopCashback. No minimum to cash out via PayPal, Venmo, or ACH bank transfer; only a handful of gift cards carry one. PayPal payments typically land in 1–2 business days once you request them.
- BeFrugal. Most payouts go out the next business day after you request them. PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and direct deposit start at a penny; a paper check needs $25. Take an eGift card instead of cash and BeFrugal adds up to 10% on top, depending on which card you pick.
Neither makes you wait months to touch confirmed cash, which is the part that actually matters day to day.
The small print that might decide it
- Rate-match guarantees, on both sides. TopCashback will beat a higher rate you can show from another site, BeFrugal included, by 10% if you claim within 7 days of the purchase. BeFrugal matches 125% of a higher rate you find elsewhere, capped at $25 per transaction, but only within 24 hours. Longer window versus bigger multiplier: pick whichever matches how fast you actually go looking.
- Interface and habit. Both are plain and functional. Pick whichever you'll actually remember to open before checkout.
- Confirmation windows. Cashback on both sits pending for the store's return window (often weeks) before it's payable, normal everywhere, not a difference between these two portals.
Note
Keep both. They're close enough that the winner is whichever's higher on the store in front of you today, and running two accounts costs nothing but two logins.
So don't pick one forever. Check the rate table before each purchase and use whoever's leading; these two just tend to be near the top when you look.
