Stacking

"Stacking" sounds like a hack. It is really just knowing which rewards can be earned on the same purchase without cancelling each other out.

One ordinary online order can pay you from several directions at once: cashback or miles from the shopping portal you clicked through (a portal being a site that pays you for starting your purchase there), rewards from the card you paid with, a card-linked offer you activated first, and a coupon the portal itself posted. Those sit on different layers, so they generally combine. Done in the wrong order, one of them quietly cancels another. A coupon code you found elsewhere can hand the credit to whoever published it, and paying with a gift card can take the portal out of the picture entirely.
